I thought this would be better as a forum post rather than an in game chat argument.

Basically the problem is some people think we are doing something wrong when we invite brand new players to BesterVille.

This is not how I see it, I see it as giving them a CHOICE to join BesterVille as a place to start their home with a few small perks such as free power and a free plot in a friendly and helpful town. I have also been accused of taking advantage and manipulating new players. This is not true, I am in no way forcing anyone to do anything, I am simply giving them an option. Some people also insist that most players like to live alone for a few days before joining a town. My problem with this is that once a player sets up a house and has gathered some resources, they are EXTREMELY unlikely to move (as moving in MineCraft is a very tedious and unpleasant experience).

Another thing is that people seem to be speaking out against BesterVille simply because it is big and for reason's unknown think that we are somehow being unfair and taking all of the new members while leaving none for other towns. This is simply not true, I personally am on for 1-2 hours every evening and invite 1-2 people during that time (some nights i dont invite anyone to the town), my assistants are not on during the day either, so that leaves a lot of time for other towns to grow. We also do not invite every new player, i only invite if i have the time to set someone up with a plot, and I am usually busy.

The issue with some established players saying that players dont want to be invited straight from spawn is simply not always true. It is true for some players, and they are always given the choice to decline an invite, but after I have invited a new player and they have accepted I am often thanked for sending an invite so quickly and giving them a place to set up.

One thing people need to stop doing is speaking for everyone, including members that havent yet joined, and saying what all people like and what all people want to do. Every person is different and likes to play the game differently, it is their choice and not yours so dont assume they are like you. Also I think we need to stop treating new members to the server like children, they most likely aren't, and can think and act for themselves. It is not for you to say what is best for them or what is bad for them, that is their job to decide that and theirs alone. I am sick of hearing "well people dont like this", what I hear is "I dont like this so no one else should either", that is childish and irrational thinking and both of those things have no place on this server

The last thing I would like to address is the issue of our town being too large or too crowded. This is a perspective issue, some like living in a large, vibrant town with many neighbors and shops that is its own micro-server (serverception :)). On the other hand some dont like it and feel it is crowded, that is fine as it is their opinion and they like what they like, but I ask that people stop antagonizing us for it and driving possible resident away by saying bad things about our town in chat when I am asking if someone would like to join. We do not make fun of your town, please dont make fun of ours.

Thanks for your time,

To be honest I have not seen that happen in chat recently, the only problem I have/had with your recruitment is that most people do not realize that your tax takes 10% of their money every day(at least you used to).
Personally I feel most people, at least should, look at several towns before joining one but It does it concern me if they chose not to.

No one's been criticizing you for sending invites. I too agree that people should have a choice of looking at many towns and scoping things out.

I just don't see why this forum topic is necessary when there isn't really a problem...

I speak for all the Fallcrest mayors when I say that we consider our town relationship a healthy, friendly rivalry. We may jest about various things, but it's always with good intentions. I don't want anyone in Besterville to think that we dislike their methods, because it's a different town with different rules and standards. We understand and appreciate the differences between our towns.

If there isnt a problem with you prodygy and fallcrest that is great :), but i spent 10 minutes arguing with over chat with jijonbreaker and pete about this, so obviously they have a problem with this, i feel chat isnt a great medium for conveying my opinion so i created this post so i could get my opinions out there with out limitations of chat.

and matthew, we have permantly removed all taxes. We can sustain ourselves off of income from shops and donations, as well as my own contributions.
